The Effects of Life Satisfaction on Successful Aging among the Elderly with Disabilities： Focusing on The Moderation Role of Disabilitiy Duration

This research investigates if there is a negative interaction effect of the duration of disability and life satisfaction on successful aging. This study used the 4th wave(2011)`s main and supplematary data from Korean Retirement and Income Study(KReIS). Sample of this research included 295 elderly with disabilities above the age of 65 and I used statistical methods such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and hierarchical control regression analysis. According to the analysis, in step one, life satisfaction of an elderly with disabilities does have a positive effect on successful aging. also, the regression analysis showed that the interaction effect(MC. Life Satisfaction X Disability Duration) had a negative effect on Successful Aging of elderly with disabilities. The implications of this research are as follows. First, along with the previous research, the study showed that the variables that affect successful aging of an elderly with disabilities similarly affect an elderly without disabilities. the research showed a positive relationship between life satisfaction and successful aging in the perspective of an elderly with disabilities. Secondly, by showing the negative interaction effect of disability duration and life satisfaction on successful aging, the study demonstrated the moderating effects of disability duration. Lastly, by studying elderly with disabilities, those who have not been granted much attention in the study of successful aging, the particular research is able to provide a new and positive outlook on the successful aging of elderly with disabilities.
